Enhancing women's political participation is a vital solution to narrow gender gap, promoting inclusive and sustainable development

On the morning of June 19 in Hanoi, Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) with the support of the Asia Foundation in Vietnam organized a workshop sharing experiences and initiatives to increase the participation of women in politics, which attracted huge participation of leaders, managers, and experts from ministries, branches, and international organizations.

The workshop 

Speaking at the opening, VWU Vice President Tran Thi Huong emphasized that, on the international level as well as in Vietnam, political rights are one of the most important human rights of women and protected by the law, which establishes equal legal capacity of women and men in state and social management. Thus, enhancing women’s political participation is a vital solution to help narrow the gender gap, promote inclusive and sustainable development of the country.

At the workshop, delegates discussed a number of issues about the work of female cadres and women participating in politics in Vietnam today, particularly, the causes and barriers limiting opportunities for women's leadership, management, their participation in party committees and elected bodies. They also shares experiences and initiatives in training, recommending the resource female cadres for election, promotion ...; proposed supplementing and amending regulations on cadres work to ensure gender equality and solutions to increase the number and improve the quality of female cadres participating in the country's management and leadership.

Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Nga, Senior Advisor, Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, shared about women in politics in the digital age.

 

 

Over the past time, the Vietnam Women's Union has been active in advising about the female cadre work, proposing policies for women; trying to achieve gender equality goals;  giving inputs on gender-mainstreaming to draft laws, ordinances, and resolutions of the National Assembly and the Government; introducing excellent female cadres to the Party for admission and as resource candidates for election to the National Assembly and People's Councils; providing capacity training for potential female candidates; raising women’s awareness and responsibility in elections.
