Women of Vietnam, Cambodia vow closer ties
Posted: Apr 21,2010

The heads of the Vietnamese and Cambodian unions for women on April 13 vowed to boost co-operation among women, and the people in general, of the two countries, particularly in border provinces.

The commitments were made at a cordial reception for the visiting delegation of Cambodian Women for Peace and Development (CWPD) hosted by Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee Secretariat.

Led by Mean Sam An, member of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People’s Party and executive member of the CWPD, the delegation is on a working visit to Vietnam from April 12-18.

During the function, Chairperson Mean Sam An informed the host of the latest developments in Cambodia, the role and activities of the CWPD in engaging womenin the cause of national construction, as well as the results of her meeting with Party Central Committee member Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, Chairperson of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) earlier the same day. Politburo member Truong Tan Sang said the Cambodian delegation’s visit is highly valued and taken as a symbol of solidarity, traditional relationship and comprehensive co-operation between the people and women of the two countries.

During talks with the VWU Chairperson, Mean Sam An said the traditional comprehensive relations between the two unions are a precious treasure that needs to be preserved and promoted by women of both sides.

Chairperson Hoa said the VWU and its nationwide chapters are promoting the campaign “Study and Follow the Moral Example of Ho Chi Minh” and three major projects concerning women’s vocational training and job creation, moral education in the context of national industrialisation and modernisation and the establishment of a Vietnam women’s academy.

The VWU is highly interested in building a contigent of female intellectuals, increasing the exchange of experience with women of other countries in tourism development, personnel training, and the fight against the trafficking of women and children.

The guest commended the party and state of Vietnam, especially Vietnamese women, for their achievements in the renewal process, saying that the Cambodian people feel like a part of those successes.

She recalled the support that Vietnamese women gave to the Cambodian people during their struggle against the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, saying that as the two countries are developing, it is even more critical for both to cement their time-honoured friendship and co-operation.

The Cambodian delegation also met with Ha Thi Khiet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation.

"... From the beginning of the first century A.D., when the two Trung Sisters rose up to fight the enemy and save the nation, until now, whenever our country has faced danger, our women have contributed whatever they could toward the cause of national liberation.

Our people are grateful that our mothers from South and North alike have borne and raised our nation's generation of heroes....

Under the Socialist system, tens of thousands of women have become specialists in different fields and, as cadre, serve as directors and vice-directors of factories, leaders of farming cooperatives, presidents of People’s Committees, and general secretaries of Party Cells....

And so, the women of Vietnam from ancient times until now, from South to North, from young to old, are truly heroes ..."
