Vietnam Women’s Union welcomes new chairwoman as Congress ends Posted: Oct 09,2007
The Viet Nam Women’s Union greeted its new chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, a member of the Party’s Central Committee, as the 10th National Women’s Congress concluded after three days.
Hoa was previously the Union’s vice-chairwoman.
Nearly 1,200 women representatives from all over the country also voted in four new vice-chairwomen, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy, Hoang Thi Ai Nhien and H’ Ngam Nie K’Dam.
Women representatives passed new tasks and goals for the union in the next five-year period. They include helping Vietnamese women continue their education, make happy homes, prevent and fight against social evils, achieve gender equality, reduce poverty, receive vocational training, and know how to teach and feed their children.
The meeting, attended by two key woman figures, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and National Assembly Deputy Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, and the Viet Nam Fatherland Front’s President Pham The Duyet, raised more than VND90 million ($5,600) to help victims in last week’s Can Tho Bridge collapse.
General Vo Nguyen Giap sent flowers and a congratulation letter to Vietnamese women in the meeting.
