OVERSEA VIETNAMESE WOMEN
Traditional Tet festival to embrace overseas Vietnamese
Posted: Jan 18,2007
The “Spring in the Motherland” performance stage

President Tran Duc Luong will deliver the welcome address at the traditional Tet festival with overseas Vietnamese dubbed “Spring in the Motherland” at the National Convention Centre on February 9. The festival is expected to attract the participation of around 1,000 overseas Vietnamese.

On the afternoon of January 8, the Commission of Overseas Vietnamese launched the “Spring in the Motherland” festival.

According to Mr Tran Quang Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Commission, the traditional Tet festival this year will see more diversified and exciting celebration activities and a sharp increase in the number of participants demonstrating the gratefulness of the country to its overseas citizens on their return.

In Hanoi, the programme will be jointly organised by the Commission of Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Commission and the Vietnam Television Broadcasting Station.

Mr Hoan revealed that there would be great changes in the reception formalities from the lobby to the inner auditorium so that all participants could feel the warm atmosphere floating in the air.

The festival will also feature open exchange talks and performances by both domestic and overseas Vietnamese singers like Elvis Phuong, Duc Huy and Phi Nhung.

Overseas Vietnamese that want to participate should take their passports or other identification documents to get free invitation cards at the Overseas Vietnamese Commission.

A similar event will be organised in HCM City on February 7 by the HCM City Division of Overseas Vietnamese. At the same time, a trade promotion fair will kick off on February 9-10 at the District 1 Gymnasium, drawing the participation of many overseas enterprises and companies.

The meeting with young overseas Vietnamese will take place at 127 Nguyen Dinh Chieu street on February 4.

In addition to the celebration activities organised by Vietnamese Embassies in host countries, many domestic musical performance troupes will perform pieces to bring the spirit of national Tet to those living far away from home.

One troupe commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Information will perform in France and other southern European countries. Another assigned by the Overseas Vietnamese Commission will perform in three northern European nations: Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

All relevant agencies will join forces to make things easier for overseas Vietnamese at border gates and airport terminals on their homecoming day especially as thousands of overseas Vietnamese will be flocking to the country on this special occasion.

Reviewing activities of overseas Vietnamese over the past year, Mr Tran Quang Hoan, Vice Chairman of Overseas Vietnamese Commission, noted that the year 2006 witnessed the enactment of many preferential policies by the Vietnamese Government for its overseas citizens.

Three targets of activities related to overseas Vietnamese in 2007:

-Organise the national meeting to review the three years implementing the action programme by the Vietnamese Government on overseas Vietnamese.

-Make resolution 36 more efficient in different regions and more helpful to different target groups.

-Understand more about the real life of overseas Vietnamese.

"... From the beginning of the first century A.D., when the two Trung Sisters rose up to fight the enemy and save the nation, until now, whenever our country has faced danger, our women have contributed whatever they could toward the cause of national liberation.

Our people are grateful that our mothers from South and North alike have borne and raised our nation's generation of heroes....

Under the Socialist system, tens of thousands of women have become specialists in different fields and, as cadre, serve as directors and vice-directors of factories, leaders of farming cooperatives, presidents of People’s Committees, and general secretaries of Party Cells....

And so, the women of Vietnam from ancient times until now, from South to North, from young to old, are truly heroes ..."
