GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT
Training for Speakers on Gender Equality Law
Posted: Oct 24,2007

A training course for speakers from northern provinces and cities on the Gender Equality Law was held from 20 to 21 August, 2007, at the Center for Women and Development (20 Thuy Khue Street, Tay Ho, Ha Noi).

In her speech at the training course, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, First Vice-President of VWU, emphasized the importance of the Gender Equality Law to socio-political life and its contribution to the accomplishment of the legal system on gender equality and the advancement of women in Vietnam. Nevertheless, in order to insure the effectiveness of the GEL - and thus narrow the gender gap with the goal of eliminating gender inequality - it was noted that comprehensive and effective communication and dissemination of information on the GEL is essential.

To achieve this objective, speakers on the GEL at all levels need to clearly define the meaning and importance of the GEL in daily life and carefully carry outtheir responsibilities in communicating and disseminating information about the GEL to people at all strata.

At the training course, speakers were provided the basic contents of the GEL; materials for GEL communication in such areas as politics, economy, culture, education, family, etc.; and a number of skills on GEL communication.

The training course was an opportunity for speakers to exchange and share experiences and to propose effective methods for GEL communication to staff members, people and women at all strata.

"... From the beginning of the first century A.D., when the two Trung Sisters rose up to fight the enemy and save the nation, until now, whenever our country has faced danger, our women have contributed whatever they could toward the cause of national liberation.

Our people are grateful that our mothers from South and North alike have borne and raised our nation's generation of heroes....

Under the Socialist system, tens of thousands of women have become specialists in different fields and, as cadre, serve as directors and vice-directors of factories, leaders of farming cooperatives, presidents of People’s Committees, and general secretaries of Party Cells....

And so, the women of Vietnam from ancient times until now, from South to North, from young to old, are truly heroes ..."
